There has been a lot of discussion around the importance of self-service to CIOs. A recent global study conducted by IBM, titled “The New Voice of the CIO”, show that analytics and self-service top the list for midmarket CIOs.
So why is self-service bubbling to the top of the list? Dave Malcolm, Surgient CTO addresses this in the webcast, “Self-Service is Coming to IT Service Delivery…What You Need to Know.” He outlines the need to fill the IT Service Delivery Gap – the issues surrounding a growing IT backlog of user-centric service requests and the ongoing need to meet delivery SLAs.
During the webcast, Malcolm explains the difference between different types of self-service models (first-come first-served, request queue, scheduling system, and reservation-based) and the importance of reservations when it comes to IT self-service.

In preparation for the upcoming Gartner Data Center Summit on October 5-6 in London, the Gartner team has released their thoughts on enterprise investement in the private cloud over the next three years. Specifically, the Gartner team believes that large enterprise organizations are likely to use a combination of public and private cloud offerings, with private clouds being, “required for many years, as public cloud offerings mature.”
Gartner describes private cloud computing as, “a style of computing where scalable and elastic IT-enabled capabilities are delivered as a service to internal customers using internet technologies.” This is clearly similar to common definitions of the public cloud - the big differences are a.) who can access the resources, and b.) who owns the infrastructure.
The patented Surgient virtual automation platform offers a unique and powerful way to achieve a truly elastic, self-service, and automated private cloud within the enterprise. To learn more about Surgient’s offerings for the private cloud, click here.
